DIY Ruffled neckline in sweater

May 5, 2017

While we are in May already, the weather outside here in The Netherlands still says mwah (rainy and cold). I admit…as a big sweater fan I can honestly say; no problem at all! Even though I put a lot of my winter clothes to the attic in boxes, I kept a stack of sweaters because you never know what May will do!

I love a quick DIY and today’s project is one in that category. This sweater is one of my favorites, the color and knitted pattern…love it! The only thing that was bothering me was the neckline, it wasn’t flattering and too wide. Solution to this ‘fashion problem’ was a simple one; I added a ribbon and pulled it through the whole neckline. You get a ruffled neckline whilst pulling at the ribbon ends and that’s exactly what I had in mind…

What you need:

  • A sweater with a wide neckline, I used a knitted one because it’s easy to pull the ribbon through
  • Ribbon, in any colour you prefer and about 1,5 meters long

What you do:

  • Lay the sweater flat and push the ribbon evenly through the open fabric. Just using your fingers or a pencil will do the trick
  • Put a knot at both ends of the ribbon to secure it and make a bow

Voila, that’s it!
