DIY Eyelets and ribbon on a sweater

Jun 14, 2017

It’s been quite a while..let’s say a veeery long time since putting a new blogpost on Studio Upnorth. A lot of things happened (more of that coming soon) but I’m back on track and ready to share fresh and new DIY projects with you all! Let’s start of with the eyelets trend.

Lately I am obsessed with eyelets and ribbons. You see them a lot and they really spice up a plain shirt, sweater… well almost everything. I just finished making a sweater with two zippers and the result was ok but a bit plain. It needed something to spice it up and make it a really cool sweater. So I thought why not adding some eyelets and ribbon…

For this sweater I used a pattern but this easy DIY is also perfect for updating an old sweater or shirt.

Note: I forgot to take pictures of the whole placing the eyelets proces, not handy I know… But when you buy a box of eyelets it comes with a clear instruction and all the tools you need!

What you need

  • A sweater (firm fabric works best)
  • 8 eyelets, I used the gold version
  • Ribbon, 2x 1,5 mtrs
  • Scissors
  • Pencil/chalk
  • Hammer

How to make

Decide where you want to place the eyelets and mark them with a pencil/chalk or pin. Cut a tiny hole where you put a mark for the eyelets and start following the instructions. It’s important to use a solid underground where you can put the sweater on because you need to use some force while hammering the eyelets. Put the ribbons through the eyelets the way you want it and there you go!

If you are wandering why I wear this sweater in summer? You never know in what weather you wake up here in The Netherlands…one week with tropical temperatures and the next filled with with rain and storms. Never boring here haha
